As for her story, here it is some background.
Carmela Berry was 13 when she transformed for the first time, for no apparent reason. She still doesn’t know what the source of her powers is. If it’s just a mutation, hers is the mother of all genetic mutations. Every time she transformed into her super- self she was more powerful, until at the age of 16 there were no doubts she was the most powerful superhuman who ever lived. Yet she was still a teenager and this didn’t help Mrs.Berry’s nerves. Carmela’s mum could hardly cope with the endless series of supersmart, superstrong or just plainly alien boyfriends her daughter was constantly rotating and being of Italian descent she often couldn’t contain herself: it was Mrs.Berry that in a rage called Carmela Virago for the first time. Carmela adopted the name in her superheroine career as an act of rebellion against her mother, but the name stuck.
By the age of 21 Virago met and fell in love with the god Perun (now, gods probably don’t have a nationality, but if Perun has one, he’s a god of the Russian tradition, so we will consider him Russian). A year later she gave birth to her and Perun’s daughter, but their relationship was already at an end. Perun was too little interested in men’s world, while Virago didn’t want to leave Earth’s plan of existence for other, more godlike ones. Virago and Perun split. Virago called the child Courtney.
Two years later she met the filmmaker Francis Williams and she married him. The 2 had another child, Trevor. Unlike Courtney, Trevor had been conceived while Carmela was in her plain human identity, hence it was expected that Courtney would inherit her mother’s powers, and maybe her father’s as well, and that Trevor wouldn’t. Carmela was expecting Courtney to undergo her first transformation about the same age as she did. But Courtney was already 15 and she was showing no sign of superpowers. Carmela couldn’t make up her mind: was she relieved or was she disappointed? Francis found harder and harder to cope with her sudden mood swings.
Then Courtney transformed. Perun was back and somehow he had managed to involve Virago in a war between ancient Russian deities, fought between different realities. Somehow Perun and Courtney ended up in Angel Falls, where the god wanted to enrol the help of Olga Yezhov (SSW). For whatever reason, Courntey accidentally touching Olga triggered the transformation. For some other reason though she couldn’t transform when she was in her own dimension. But she could travel through dimensions at will, a gift from her father she reckons
After Olga and Perun have dealt with the war between gods , Courtney makes up her mind. For the moment she will be the Virago of Angel Falls. She will cross the threshold between her dimension and Angel Falls’ as often as she can, and even if she’s still nowhere near as powerful as her mother, she’s going to enjoy a career as a superheroine. She doesn’t want her mum to know because she thinks that Carmela will think it’s too dangerous and won’t allow her. Of course Courtney knows that sooner or later her mother will find out and nothing will stop her from find a way to get to Angel Falls, but for the moment she can’t bother.
